Which payment methods are accepted in the wegfinder app?
We currently accept the following payment methods:
- Credit cards: Visa & Mastercard (Amex & Diners are currently not accepted)
- Debit cards: You can use your debit card if it carries the VISA or Mastercard logo and has a 16-digit card number printed on it (in addition to the IBAN).
- Google Pay
- PayPal
Please make sure that 3D Secure (or “Enable E-Commerce”, “Online Payments”, “SecureCode”, “Mastercard Identity Check” or “VISA Secure”) is activated.
-
How do I activate 3D Secure?
For payments to work in wegfinder, 3D Secure must be activated for your credit or debit card, regardless of whether you pay with the physical card or via Apple Pay / Google Pay.
Log in to your bank’s online banking service or app and activate the online payment function for your card (with many banks, this is activated automatically once the banking app has been set up). Then add the card to wegfinder or to Apple Pay / Google Pay.
-
Why is 3D Secure required to use the app?
In short: to comply with legal requirements. Strong customer authentication is mandatory for all online payments across the EU and is implemented by the bank that issued the card.
-
What should I do if a payment in wegfinder still fails?
- Check in your bank’s online banking service or banking app (not in wegfinder) whether 3D Secure or “Online Payments” is activated for the card in question.
- Check whether push notifications are enabled for your bank’s authentication/approval app.
- If you are paying via Apple Pay or Google Pay: First activate 3D Secure with your bank and then add the card to your wallet again.
- If the problem persists, contact the customer service of the bank that issued your card. The authentication/approval process itself is outside wegfinder’s control.

I was charged an amount in the wegfinder app that I cannot identify. What can I do?
For some services (e.g. car sharing, e-scooters, bike sharing or taxis), we place a temporary hold for a certain amount on your payment method before the journey to ensure that sufficient funds are available to use the service. Some banks display this reserved amount as if it had already been charged - however, this is not the case. After the journey, the actual fare is charged and the remaining amount is released. Depending on the bank, it can take anywhere from a few days to up to two weeks for the temporary hold to disappear. In most cases, it happens sooner, but this is outside our control. The booking overview will inform you in advance of the amount of the temporary hold and how the charge will be processed.
